Dr Tamara Griffiths received her dermatology training at the University of Michigan, USA and the University of Manchester, UK. An American Board Certified dermatologist and on the UK Specialist Register, she is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the British Association of Dermatologists. Currently a Consultant Dermatologist at the Dermatology Centre, Salford Royal NHS Trust, she has expertise in the diagnosis and management of diseases of the skin, hair and nails. As dermatology Training Programme Director for the North Western Deanery and Chair of the Specialist Training Committee, she is extensively involved in the recruitment and training of dermatology registrars at both regional and national levels.

Dr Griffiths is an internationally recognised key opinion leader in the area of cosmetic dermatology. As Honorary Lecturer at the University of Manchester, she heads clinical research on various aspects of aesthetic medicine and frequently interacts with broadcast and print media on the subject, which has included appearances on the BBCs Horizon Programme and Channel 4s How to Look Good Naked. She is a founder member and President of the British Cosmetic Dermatology Group and is a spokesperson on aesthetic issues and Trustee for the research charity the British Skin Foundation. As past advisor to the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and current member of the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) she influences both national and international policy relating to cosmetic procedures. In 2007 she was voted one of Britains top doctors by Tatler Magazine.



Dr Nick Lowe is the immediate Past President of the BCDG.  He is an internationally renowned Consultant Dermatologist with over 30 years experience at the cutting edge of new treatments, technology and research into skin problems and ageing. He has the unique advantage of having trained in both the UK and USA and is acknowledged as one of the UK and USA's leading experts in dermatology and skincare. He originally graduated from a top UK Medical School in 1968 and now has long established private practices in London and California, and is now Medical Director of a clinical research company which specialise in skin ageing. Dr Lowe is also Clinical Professor of Dermatology at UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, teaching and lecturing in their dermatology programme and, until recently, was Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Dermatology at UCL School of Medicine in London.

He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers and both a pioneer and acknowledged leader in the provision of cosmetic dermatology and surgery, laser and light rejuvenation, injectable dermal fillers, anti wrinkle injections, Botox,chemical peels and radiofrequency rejuvenation.

 Dr Lowe has written over 400 clinical and research papers and 18 books, sits on the editorial board of five scientific journals and is a founding editor of the Journal Of Cutaneous Laser Therapy. Dr. Markey graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School in 1980 (MB.ChB). Over the following six years he held a number of prestigious internal medicine appointments at several of the London teaching hospitals (St. Mary’s, Barts, Guy’s). During this time he passed the examination for membership to the Royal College of Physicians of London (1984) which is equivalent to the American Boards of Internal Medicine. He was made a Fellow of the College in 1998 (FRCP).

He entered specialised dermatology training in 1986 at Guy’s Hospital combining academic and clinical dermatology as a registrar. In 1990, he became senior registrar and clinical tutor to the St. John’s Institute of Dermatology, London (the national skin centre). Also in 1990, the University of Manchester awarded him his doctorate (M.D - equivalent to a clinical PhD) for his research thesis ‘Non-melanoma skin cancer’. He became fully accredited in dermatology (board certified) in 1991.

Following completion of dermatology training in the UK, Dr. Markey left London to take up a one year post as Assistant Clinical Professor, University of California, San Francisco, specialising in cosmetic, skin laser and skin cancer treatments working with Dr. Roy Grekin and Dr. Richard Glogau. On his return to the UK, he was appointed Consultant Dermatologist and Senior Lecturer to St. John’s Institute, St. Thomas’ Hospital, London where he helped create the custom-built Dermatological Surgery and Laser Unit. He was Director and Lead Consultant of this national referral unit from 1993-2000.

In 1993, in addition to his NHS/academic positions, Dr. Markey established a private practice at the Lister Hospital, Chelsea, London specialising in cosmetic treatments, not performed in the NHS. In January 2003, reflecting his primary interest and international reputation in cosmetic treatments, he moved into full-time private cosmetic practice based at the Lister Hospital, maintaining an Honorary Consultant position at St. John’s Institute, St. Thomas’ Hospital, where he continues to lecture and assist in training of other doctors from the UK and abroad in the specialised field of cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Markey was specialist dermatology advisor to the Government’s Department of Health Expert Advisory Group on the Regulation of Cosmetic Surgery 2003-2005 and is currently UK contributing editor for the journal ‘Dermatologic Surgery’.  

Dr. Markey is an internationally recognised expert on all aspects of minimally invasive cosmetic surgery including botulinum toxin (Botox), skin fillers (such as collagen, hyaluronic acid, fat), chemical peeling and laser systems used for cosmetic skin treatments including wrinkling, scarring, body hair, vascular, pigmented and birthmark lesions. With over 70 clinical and research publications including original papers, abstracts and book chapters and extensive lecture invitations from around the world as a guest speaker and faculty member at many international dermatology society meetings, Dr Markey continues to devote his professional efforts to the delivery and refinement of cosmetic dermatology in his private London medical practice.



Vishal is a former Secretary of the BCDG.  He is a Consultant Dermatologist, Laser and Dermatological surgeon at the and Manchester Royal Infirmary. He has been a consultant at the sk:n clinic in Manchester since 2008. Vishal is a Consultant Dermatologist, Laser and Dermatological surgeon at the Salford Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust  where he trained as a Dermatologist and did the only skin laser fellowship in the UK. He spent another year training in Mohs micrographic (Advanced skin cancer surgery) and reconstructive surgery at the Welsh Institute of Dermatology, Cardiff. His main interests are laser skin treatments cosmetic and medical indications, skin cancer diagnosis and treatment. He runs a very successful laser course at the Salford Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and an executive member of the British Medical Laser Association. Vishal has published in excess of 95 articles, authored 10 book chapters and edited a book on specialty examination in Dermatology and another on skin cancer.



Dr Mallipeddi qualifed from Imperial College School of Medicine and completed general medical training at various London Teaching Hospitals including St Mary's, Hammersmith, Charing Cross and Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals.  He specialised in Dermatology at St John's Institute of Dermatology, London and was awarded a doctorate for research into squamous cell carcinoma by the University of London.  In 2006 he completed his specialist training in Dermatology in the UK and undertook a prestigious fellowship at UTSouthwestern Medical Centre, Dallas, USA where he gained unique training in skin cancer, lasers and cosmetic dermatology.

After returning to UK he was appointed as a Consultant Dermatologist and Dermatological Surgeon in the Dermatological Surgery and Laser Unit, St John's Institute of Dermatology, St Thomas' Hospital.  Since 2008 he has been Head of Dermatological Surgery and Laser Unit as well as Director of the Dermatological Surgery fellowship training programme at St John's Institute.  He is also the skin cancer Lead for Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals and is on the executive committee of the British Society for Dermatological Surgery.

He is on the UK specialist register for Dermatology, a member of the British Association of Dermatologists, American Society for Dermatological Surgery, American College of Mohs Surgery, and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.  He is an international expert in cosmetic dermatology with experience in lasers, injectibles and chemical peels.  Particular interests include laser resurfacing and treatments in pigmented skin.  He lectures extensively and is a regular faculty member at the annual BCDG course.  He has published numerous papers and contributed to several books including the chapter on Botulinum toxin in "Cosmetic Dermatology. Edited by Alam et al. London: Saunders, 2009." 

Dr Mallipeddi continues to work in both the NHS and private sector.  He has featured in various magazines and newspapers, and appeared on the BBC, Sky News and performed photodynamic therapy live on ITV.  He has also won a number of accolades including being listed in the Marquis Who's Who in Healthcare."
